Monaco Grand Prix 2026 — Travel Guide for Real People
Published 4 May 2026 · ~7 min read
Monaco is the most expensive race weekend on the calendar — but only if you stay in Monaco. Here's how regulars do it for one-fifth of the cost while seeing more racing than the yacht crowd.
1. The Nice / Èze / Beaulieu strategy
Don't book a hotel in Monaco. Stay in Nice (€150-€300/night), Beaulieu-sur-Mer(€180-€350) or Èze-sur-Mer (€200-€400). The same rooms in Monaco cost €1,500-€4,000. You'll be 15-25 minutes away by train.
2. The SNCF coastal train hack
The TER coastal line from Nice-Ville to Monaco-Monte-Carlo runs every 15-30 minutes and costs €4-€6 one way. Buy a ZOU! pass for unlimited weekend travel (~€25). The train arrives directly underneath the circuit at the Sainte Dévote tunnel exit.
3. Best viewing spots
- Le Rocher (free) — overlooks Sainte Dévote + swimming pool. Arrive 7am.
- Grandstand K (paid) — Casino square, Massenet, Mirabeau. The classic shot.
- Grandstand T (paid) — Tabac corner, into the swimming pool. Best overtaking view.
- Sector Z (cheapest paid) — Rascasse + final corner, €99-€150.
4. Getting to Monaco
Fly into Nice Côte d'Azur (NCE). From the airport, take the Tram T2to Nice city centre (€1.50, 25 min) then the train to Monaco. Avoid taxis on Saturday — the Promenade des Anglais becomes a parking lot.
Premium option: Monacair helicopter from NCE (7 min, €180-€240). Book by Wednesday for Sunday departure.
5. Where to eat
- La Petite Maison de Nicole (Nice) — Provençal classics, paddock favourite.
- Le Café de Paris (Monaco) — touristy but the terrace is the best people-watching spot in motorsport.
- Tetou (Golfe-Juan) — bouillabaisse worth the 30km drive.
